Writing AI video prompts that actually work

Good prompts read like a shot list, not a wish list. A few patterns separate clean, controllable output from noisy slop.

Front-load the shot

Lead with the subject and the action, then the setting, then the camera. Models weight the start of the prompt most, so put what matters first.

State each instruction once

Repeating an action or camera move confuses the model. Say it once, clearly. Emphasis comes from word order, not repetition.

Match the model to the shot

Stylized, characterful clips and realistic dialogue shots want different models. Pick the model that fits the look you’re after instead of fighting one to do everything.

Frequently asked

Should I write long or short prompts?

As long as it needs to be specific, no longer. Add detail that controls the result; cut anything decorative that just adds noise.

Why does my video ignore part of my prompt?

Usually too many competing instructions. Simplify, front-load the most important one, and split complex ideas into separate shots.
