Claymation, felt puppets and 3D cartoons
Two clay-look sitcoms in our research have median views of 134K and 108K. An animated style hides what gives AI video away, such as stiff lip-sync and strange hands, and a clear style reads as a choice, not a shortcut.
Pick one style and keep it
Claymation: visible fingerprints, slightly lumpy shapes, a miniature set. Felt puppets: fuzzy fabric, button eyes, a small studio set. 3D animated film: smooth, detailed, lit like a movie. Pick one for the whole video and the whole channel. Variety comes from the ideas, not from the look.
Why it works
The style becomes the brand. A clay-look London series gets British viewers tagging their friends: “Is this you?” An animated look also needs no real faces, so you never borrow anyone’s likeness.
Make one in ViewPress
Start with a style frame. Type: “Claymation, stop-motion look with visible fingerprints: a grumpy clay doctor with round glasses and a stethoscope stands in a small clay clinic next to an X-ray lightbox. Warm and handmade, like a 60-second TV ad.” Approve it, then save the doctor as a character. Each new scene starts from that character, so the style and the face stay the same. For an ad, ask for an animated ad: the agent plans about 6 scenes for 20 seconds and starts each scene where the last one ended.
Four anchors for every frame
Anchor each frame prompt on four things. The style and quality: “claymation, stop-motion”. The format: “a 60-second TV ad”, which lifts the production value. The story beat of this frame. And the purpose: “for a Facebook ad people click”. Two production anchors, one story anchor and one purpose anchor.
Put a real product in
Attach a photo of the product and ask: “Recreate this product in the same claymation style.” The product joins the scene in clay instead of sitting pasted on top. A clean product frame makes a strong last scene, with room for text.
Pitfalls
Mixing styles in one video. Describing a cartoon character again in words for every scene: the face drifts, so carry it as a character image. And 3D animated film style as a default: it can look like every other AI video. Choose it when the idea is a cartoon.
Frequently asked
Can puppets and clay characters talk?
Yes. Write the line into the scene, with one action per shot. Puppet mouths make small lip-sync faults hard to see.
Which style should I start with?
The one that fits the joke. Clay suits cosy, everyday comedy. Felt puppets suit a talk show or a sketch. 3D animated film suits animal families and kids’ stories.
