Found footage: clips people think are real

An AI clip of a hidden forest bunker reached 22M views on one creator account. A made-up football fan on a made-up broadcast got 617 bookmarks on 74K views. These clips work because they look like something a person or a machine filmed by accident.

The format

One continuous shot from a camera nobody was aiming on purpose: a doorbell camera, a trail camera, a dash cam, a CCTV angle, a phone held up across the street, a broadcast camera zooming into a crowd. Something impossible happens in it. Bigfoot walks past carrying a picnic cooler. A raccoon in a hi-vis vest delivers a parcel at 2 AM.

Why it works

Viewers believe the camera before they judge what is in front of it. The format brings its own proof: a timestamp, fisheye edges, a score graphic. Then the comments argue about whether it is real, and every argument adds comments. The caption can admit it: “This isn’t a real person. It’s not even a real broadcast.”

Describe the camera’s faults

The realism is in the faults, so name them. A phone: handheld, slightly tilted, focus hunting, soft digital zoom, sensor noise, wobble on fast moves, flat overcast light. A doorbell: strong fisheye, washed-out night colours, a blown-out porch light, a timestamp. A trail cam: grainy daylight, a fixed low angle, dark corners. End with: “no cinematic colour, no smooth camera, no music.”

Make one in ViewPress

Make the first frame as an image, then move it. Type: “A start frame from a cheap doorbell camera at night: strong fisheye, washed-out colours, a blown-out porch light, the timestamp 02:14 AM in the corner. A real raccoon stands upright on the top step in a tiny orange hi-vis vest, holding a cardboard parcel, looking up at the camera, tired.” Ask for Standard quality. Then: “8 seconds from this frame: the raccoon puts the parcel down, presses the doorbell with one paw and walks back down the steps on its hind legs. Real animal, no cuts, night sounds, no music.”

Write a timeline for longer clips

For 10 to 15 seconds, say what happens in each stretch: “0 to 2s: … 2 to 4s: the phone zooms in and the focus hunts … 6 to 8s: …”. Say that the first frame is locked and nothing in it changes. Put the sound on its own line. Then list what must not happen: no cuts, no extra animals, no text, no music.

Pitfalls

Real channel logos, team badges and people’s faces: invent them. A film look: colour grading, smooth camera moves and music give it away. Too much at once: one strange thing, filmed plainly, beats three.

Frequently asked

Is this misleading?

Say it is AI in the caption, as the creators we studied do. The argument in the comments still happens, and nobody feels tricked.

Which model should I pick?

Let the agent pick. Animals, creatures and scenery with no human performance run on the cheapest realistic model. Ask for the top quality only for a hero shot.
